On Atzlan I worked on general gameplay features but also on the visual effects of light beams, since the game was very much designed around knowing where sun beams would hit the ground floor, it was therefor important to carry this information to the player. To achieve this I created fake light beams using 2d sprites that helped distinguish lit tiles from unlit tiles. Since the game was meant to run on mobile phones this hacky technique lended itself very useful as it was very cheap.
